If you’re looking for an exciting way to welcome the new year, consider joining the many Netflix subscribers diving into the latest Mad Max films. As of December 31, both Mad Max: Fury Road and Furiosa have made their way onto Netflix’s top 10 movies chart, just a day after being added to the streaming service’s library.
Earlier this month, Netflix released its list of new titles for December 2024, and I was intrigued to see Mad Max: Fury Road returning to the platform. On Monday, I was pleasantly surprised to find that both Fury Road and its prequel, Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga, had been added as a late Christmas gift.
As Erin Corbett noted on Netflix’s Tudum site, “There’s no better way to wrap up the year than with an explosive double feature.” With both Mad Max: Fury Road and Furiosa now available, viewers can end 2024 (or kick off 2025) with an action-packed adventure through a dystopian landscape.
It seems subscribers have taken this advice to heart. On Tuesday, Mad Max: Fury Road quickly climbed to #4 on the streaming charts, while Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga debuted at #10. This surge in popularity might say something about our collective feelings as we step into 2025.
Personally, I didn’t catch Furiosa until months after its theatrical release, and I regretted not seeing it on the big screen. While I consider Fury Road a modern classic, Furiosa may not reach those heights but remains one of the most entertaining blockbusters in recent years, featuring strong performances throughout.
